CURRENT PROGRAMS, NewsStudent Section of the XVI. Congress of Hungarian Geomathematics and the V. Croatian-Hungarian Geomathematical Conference, 2013Congress outline: PROGRAMS IN THE PAST Meeting of recruiting
At the occassion of our last meeting of 25th September 2012 7 new members decided to join our Student Chapter:
The new members are researching at the fields of Mineralogy , Geochemistry, Geology and Geostatistics. WORKSHOP - Hyperspectral remote sensingOn the 9th March 2012 hyperspectral remote sensing techniques were introduced by Balint Csendes, President of the Student Chapter. The workshop venue was the Department of Physical Geography and Geoinformatics, where participants were guided through the statistical methods applied for spectral analysis of minerals and vegetation using ENVI IDL software. The event was organized for IAMG student members, however, also many students from Debrecen and Pécs took part.
New secretary elected
Miss Andrea Wágenhoffer was elected on the 21st June 2012 for the secretarial position. New leadership at the head of the Szeged IAMG student associationAt the last meeting Bálint Csendes has been elected for the presidential position (replacing János Dolleschall) and Szabina Grund has been elected for the secretarial position (replacing Janina Horváth). Both mandates are valid from 8th July 2011. The III. International youth congress for Geomathematics was closed succesfullyOn 27th May, the Student Chapter Szeged of IAMG organized geomathematical competition when the youth researchers and students presented their studies. The international professional commitee appreciated 4 poster presentations and 12 oral presentations. Awarded students are the following: The best poster presentation: Ana Busic Majstorovic and the title of her paper: Statistical Analysis of Neogene Sediment Thickness Deposited in 1st Extension and 1st Transpression, Bjelovar Subdepression, Croatia. The best oral presentation: Istán Nemes & András Bálint; the title of their research: Problems and solutions of a well-pair near Szentes. Congratulations to the winners! The summary of the presentations and photos about congress will be available soon in this page.

III. INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF YOUNG GEOMATHEMATICANSStudent Section of the XV. Congress of Hungarian Geomathematics and the III. Croatian-Hungarian Geomathematical Conference Organizer of Student Section: IAMG Student Chapter Szeged (Geomathematical, Geostatistical and Geoinformatical Student Chapter - Szeged) Hereby Student Chapter Szeged of the International Association for Mathematical Geosciences invites all of students who are interested in mathematical geosciences and would like to participate on the III. Student Section of the XV. Congress of Hungarian Geomathematics and the III. Croatian-Hungarian Geomathematical Conference Also, Student Chapter Szeged invites participant students to a Student Paper Contest. The best presentation will be awarded by the Professional Committee of the Congress. Date: May 26-28th 2011. (Exact time of the student section will be published later on our website: oslenytan.hu) Venue: ’Aranyszöm’ Conference Hall, Mórahalom, Hungary The aim of the conference is to give an opportunity at least once a year for the Hungarian and foreigner scientists - who are interested in geographical / geological problems solving mathematical/statistical approaches - to meet together in Hungary. This is the third occasion, when young professionals, university students get the opportunity to show their scientific results for a large audience as part of the individual student section. Key topics of the conference:
Criterion on application for the student session is an English-texting abstract to be sent until 16th April. We offer publication opportunity in the Conference Book by GeoLitera Publ. Co., in case, if the extended presentation text will be arrived until 26th May. This question is under debate in many international organizations, and this question is one of the most popular topics for several scientific or political forecasts. Several positive and negative answers have been born in the recent years in this subject, but most of them rely on quite uncertain data about the actual resources. It is evident, that the most established answers for this problem can be expected from the Earth sciences. It is also clear, that a good answer requires qualified mathematical and geological background. Past IAMG conferences have focused on methodologies and case studies. In 2009 the main emphasize is given to computational methods. This topic is a strong integration of Earth science with computer science, each driving development of the other. We believe that in this way IAMG can make an important contribution in the measuring, modeling and assessment of conventional and non-conventional subsurface energy and natural mineral resources.
